So I just got finished taking a phone call, where I was setting up a new Distributor for Nuskin. When they gave me the social security number, I noticed that it started the same way mine does. So me trying to make small talk and the conversation fun, I said "Oh was she born in Utah by chance?" she than said "Yes, and you probably know all of my family", than continued on and said "So are you one of those Mormons?" I said "Yes I am LDS" They then continued to laugh for like 3 minutes! What in the world! I was so mad so the rest of the conversation I just had to bite my lip on other things I wanted to say back. I could have said "no I am not Mormon, my name is Melissa, because well techniqually no we aren't Mormon, Mormon is the name of a Faithful man in the Book of Mormon. Maybe not all LDS people act the way I do but according Article of Faith #11 it states as follows:
"We claim the priviledge of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."
I believe this to be true and should be honored by all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I also believe that any one of any other Faith should let anyone else worship the way they like to as well, without being mocked.
I have had many friendships in my life with people not of my Faith, this doesn't mean that they are horrible people. These people might also drink or do drugs, but that is their choice. I remember specifically in college a good friend of mine. I was his DD Designated Driver sometimes. I let him know that I didn't mind that he drank, that was his choice. But he was not allowed to offer it to me because it was my choice and I have chosen that I would never do that. We had a wonderful friendship, unfortunately, we have both moved and not kept in great touch. I remember one day he told me that he respected me because of the way I respected him for who he was and that I never judged him.
"The Lord gave a warning to guide us in our judgment of others: "With what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. As much as we can, we should judge people's situations rather than judging the people themselves.
Judgment is an important use of our agency and requires great care, especially when we make judgments about other people. All our judgments must be guided by righteous standards. Only God, who knows each individual's heart, can make final judgments of individuals." (lds.org)
Anyways, off my soap box, I just wish people would respect everyone.
